Heal the Planet

More of us are realizing that running a business that positively impacts the people and the world around us, also positively impacts our bottom line.

In this new series, we are putting a spotlight on the people and businesses who are doing something good for people, planet, and profit.

For 25 years, philanthropist Ken Fisher, sat on an idea for how to transform learning into a supportive, experiential environment based on mindfulness.  Up sprouted Heal the Planet.  A 501(c)(3) non-profit based on the notion that like a seed, with a little support, we all have the potential to make a huge impact.

The Seeds Project

The aim of the SEED (Sustainable Energy EDucation) Project is to educate and empower youth in making conscious choices that are healthy for both them and the planet.

Whether we choose to leave the water off while we brush our teeth or not means saving 3 to 5 gallons of this precious commodity.  Each one of us could be saving 2,400 gallons of water annually!

It starts with the Heart

Using a multidisciplinary approach to learning, The SEEDS Project weaves branches of nutrition, exercise, ecological awareness, and stress management into a heart-centered program.

Children are taught to meditate as part of the SEEDS Project.

At the Root of it all

At the root of the Project is Executive Director, Rachel Shapiro.  A dynamic educator who is driven to bring holistic wellness to the masses, Rachel lives and breathes sustainability.  She is co-Director for GMO Free FL and is also on the Florida Food Policy Council.  She believes that everyone deserves access to fresh, locally grown produce because food is medicine.

Planting Seeds

Between giving free SEED Project lessons in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties to planning Heal the Planet events, Rachel is a model for how to live mindful of our impact on the Planet.
