More of us are realizing that running a business that positively impacts the people and the world around us, also positively impacts our profits.
In this new Blue Business Spotlight series, we highlight the people and businesses who are doing something good for our blue planet.
Inspired by the vivid colors of the Caribbean and the bold women who play in her waters,
Truli Wetsuits is squeezing the lime into the black neoprene world of the SCUBA and water sport industries.
I was hit by a color bomb the moment I saw Truli Wetsuits at the Blue Wild Expo in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Never had I seen a jewel-toned wetsuit, let alone one with yoga-style leggings.
The CEO and designer behind Truli Wetstuits is Canadian Mia Toose. Meeting Mia was like running into an old dive buddy. An avid open water swimmer, kiteboarder, and SCUBA diving instructor, Mia describes her relationship to water very much as I do.
Below the surface, there is tranquility. The only noise is the sound of your own rhythmic breathing. Everywhere you look, there's inspiration in the color and patterns of life on the reef. For once, in the weightless of water, you are free from an otherwise heavy world.
The more we shared stories, the more we realized we were part of the same tribe of waterwomen.

Mia's idea for a colorful women's wetsuit
came to her when she was a SCUBA dive and kiteboarding instructor in the Dominican Republic.
As someone who lives her life out loud, she was sick of blending into a sea of black neoprene on the dive charters she worked but needed a suit that stayed in place better than her kiteboarding wetsuits.
In 2014, Mia's first wetsuit design went from sketch to prototype. Living in the Turks & Caicos Islands and working on a dive boat allowed her to test her wetsuit design first hand with guests, resulting in a second prototype and final sample in 2015.
Today, she has two wetsuit designs, the Truli-Mi signature design and the Truli-Capri and is working on a fleece-lined long-sleeved neoprene top.

{Inspirational eye candy with Truli Wetsuits}
I brought along the Truli-Capri on a recent trip to Puerto Rico and truly loved feeling warm, comfortable, and uniquely me. Check out all of the reasons you will too...
Mia often parallels her journey
learning to kiteboard years ago to her journey as an entrepreneur today saying both require an unrelinquishing desire and commitment to put in the work it takes to reach your goals.
Just as she once daydreamed of performing stylish kiteboarding tricks, Mia now holds a vision as to what Truli Wetsuits will become
Sponsoring marine education programs such as the Ocean Allison Podcast is just one way Mia is giving back to the ocean community. In the future, she hopes that the Truli lifestyle she has created will inspire a new tribe of confident, bold watergirls and women who are living life out loud!
Thanks Mia for all that you do for our blue planet!
